In order to adapt the changes and development of21st century,a new round of basic educationcurriculum reform started in our country; and open character and life course in the elementary schoollower grade senior,open character and society in higher grade.In fact,China’s social studies history, canbe traced back to the period of the republic of China.In1923,new system specified in the syllabus,"Inelementary school,the course such as health, citizen, history, geography merger into social studies".This article mainly uses the1923-1949years of literature about social studies that collected in“Chinese curriculum standard of primary and secondary schools in the20th century”,by analyzing thecharacteristics of the social studies curriculum,understand the social studies’pros and cons, summarizethe experiences and lessons.First of all, the primary school social studies belong to citizenship education, due to social andpolitical, cultural and other factors, the connotation is different in different periods of civic education.On the one hand, the primary school social studies concerned children’s civil life, it helps childrenunderstand the basic knowledge and skills of social life, form good habits, and establish certain socialservice consciousness.On the other hand, with the national government to strengthen the control ofeducation, the primary school social studies joined the content of “The Three People’s Principles”, itscitizenship education turn into raining polite,patriotic national; prefer to cultivate citizens of cultivateone’s morality, rather than the citizens of modern sense. This reflects the political party will penetrationin the social studies education, but the healthy of primary school social studies’development needs theindependence of social studies education.Secondly, in order to guide the practice,we need define the status of primary school social studies.For example, primary school social studies of the republic of China identified the objectives for theservice of children’s social life,its content is according to the category of children’s lives, adopt theconcentric expansion mode;its teaching resources come from the children’s social life, the teachingmethod reflects the phenomenon that take children as the main body, teacher as the guidance;itsteaching evaluation is also turn to the evaluation process, no longer a single emphasize knowledgememory, embodies the social studies is a citizen life education curriculum orientation.Once again, the primary school social studies also inspired us to strengthen the combination oftheory and practice.Although the theory research on the primary school social studies is enough, thesocial studies’practice effect is just passable. This is caused by two reasons, one is the social studieslack social identity,the attention to curriculum is not enough; another is one-sided emphasis on theintroduction of foreign advanced education theory,neglecting the understanding of national conditions,social studies curriculum theory has not formed.
