Family education is an important educational practice, and parenting style is an important form in the educational practice by which parents convey the values and social norms to children. Under the rapid changes in the society, parenting style will present different forms, especially the rural households in the urbanization process.Taking the B village of Shandong province as an example, this study uses qualitative research methods, and inspects the daily life of three generations who were born before liberation, from liberation to the reform and opening up, and after the early reform and opening up respectively. The study describes the performance of parenting styles with the rural people’s native language, analyzes inheritances and changes in rural parenting style among the three generations, and explores the direction and reasons of the change. Finally, the study reflects parents’ roles and education concepts in the modern rural households from two angles.The study discusses parenting style of three generations from four dimensions which are education concept, education atmosphere, role play and interactive way, and then compares and sums up the inheritances and changes in rural parenting style among the three generations. Inter-generational inheritance is that all the three generations put the moral cultivation as a key. Generational changes are embodied in four aspects.Firstly, the concept of rural family education has changed from natural growth to practical education. Secondly, education atmosphere has changed from jitters to kindness. Thirdly, parents’ role play has changed from clear demarcation between inside and outside to active participation. Fourthly, the interactive way has changed from passive obedience into active communication.The researcher thinks that many factors contributed to the changes of rural parenting style. The changes of rural parenting style are caused by The innovation of public education concept and the conflict and collision between modernity and local life. These are the main reasons why the rural parenting style is changed. As the same time, the family structure simplification and the transformation of family function have played a role in the changes of rural parenting style.The obvious changes in rural parenting style among generations lie in the modernization of family and schooling family. Parents’absolute authority disappeared, the autonomy of children is promoted, rural family rely on school education too much.In the face of such huge changes, in order to avoid the family become an extension of the school completely, we should reflect on the reconstitution of the modern rural parents’ role and rural education concept.
