As a kind of acquired social gender, gender role reflects the expectation of social culture on men and women. Parenting Style have the most direct and powerful influence on the formation and development of gender role. There were many theories and empirical researches in this field, but little of research linked to gender role.Method of questionnaire was adopted to investigate gender roles and parenting style of Middle school students and explore impacts of parenting style on gender role development. ResearchⅠadopt CSRI-50 to investigate the gender role development of Middle school students. ResearchⅡdeveloped Father Raring Style Questionnaire and Mother Raring Style Questionnaire and tested the reliability and validity. ResearchⅢinvestigated the Parenting Style using the Questionnaire of ResearchⅡ. ResearchⅣexplored impacts of parenting style on gender role development.The results showed that:(1) The proportion of the Androgynous and the Undifferentiated and the single-sex is nearly equal, the impact of gender stereotype still exist. Students showed a fluctuation state of gender roles from the grade level. Comparison showed that the development of gender role, urban better than rural areas, non-only child better than only child, student leaders better than non-student leaders.(2) Both Father Raring Style Questionnaire(17 items) and Mother Raring Style Questionnaire(21 items) can divide into 5 dimensions: authoritarian, democratic, authoritative, doting and neglectful, both has good reliability and validity.(3) Both Father and Mother Raring Style can be divided into three types, namely the positive class, middle class and negative class. Positive category, including democratic, authoritative, democratic - authoritative, the middle class, including democratic - doting type, negative kind, including authoritarian, doting and neglectful; authoritative, democratic, authoritative - democratic, doting are the main type of individual rearing types. There was significant difference in the residence and there was no significant difference between grades.(4) The joint parental rearing mainstream is positive, democratic, (authoritative– democratic), democratic - (authoritative-democratic), democratic - authoritative, authoritative - (authoritative - democratic) are 5 main types of joint parental rearing; authoritative - (authoritative - democratic) is the optimal joint parental rearing.(5) Father and Mother rearing patterns were significantly related with masculinity, femininity; parenting style predicts the effects of gender roles.
