The ability of arithmetical solution is the organic combination of critical thinking and arithmetic skill. This ability is much more important than others, and it could directly influence students’math performance and the improvement of their mathematical qualities and affects one person’s sustainable development after entering society. Ability concerning arithmetical solution has always been the key point in college-entrance exam. Through closely reading and examining related articles, the writer, deeply impressed by these researches, could easily see that they differ greatly from each other while at the same time representing high-quality studies and basically agree with these scholars.However, the writer found that the most common objectives of these researches are either high-school students or science students and there are no researches regarding high-school art students. Therefore, the writer should bear the responsibility to study the ability of high-school art students based on the new curriculum materials, hoping to assist these students in getting out of trouble as soon as possible. Among the methods of research are literature research, conversation, questionnaire, and testing.The article firstly analyzes the current conditions of high-school art students, examples in new materials, and common mistakes made by students on these questions. Then, we’ve don series researching works, including conversations with many math teachers and questionnaires focusing on student. Basing on the exam guidelines, we’ve test the arithmetical ability of three different types’students and made a statistical analysis. We find there are three factors accounting for the bad performance on arithmetical solution of art students——teachers, student themselves, and school’s policy. Final, we proposed strategies aiming at improving this ability, including ensuring basic teaching quality on class based on new textbooks, making good efforts to develop abilities relevant to arithmetical solution, enhancing the culture of mathematical thinking, focusing on effective training and improving the revise of test paper.
