In September, 2004, the provinces or municipality of Guangdong, Shandong, Hainan and Ningxia setout to put the Senior High School New Courses Project into practice. The purpose of the reformation of thesenior high school courses is to build up a new course system which can set out the educational character inhigh schools with the characteristics of times, element and selection. It is the base for each student'slong-life and all-round development. One of the material purposes of the course reformation is that somenew systems should be set up, such as the Students' Study Schedule System, the Instructions for Students'Course Selection System, the Credit Management System. So it will be ensured that the students can selectthe courses for themselves in system. "Characteristic of Selection" is the core of the course reformation andto learning how to select their own courses is the necessary ability each student is supposed to have. Torealize the fixed purpose as well as to guide students to establish the reasonable plan for courses process,the school builds a proper and practical course selection system. With the development of this system, somechanges will happen in teaching methods and studying ways, as a result, students' all-round personalitydevelopment can be stimulated. According to the aim of new course reformation, the credits of each courseare stimulated. It also stimulates the total credits for students' graduation. The variety and selection call fora flexible management system.As an experimental unit school of the new reformation project, Shandong ExperimentalHigh School takes an active part in it. The school goes all out to do research into the core, thatis students' course selection. This treatise discusses such factors as organization for students'course selection, improvement and training for teachers, development for school-course andmaterial preparations for course selection. As to its detailed actualization, some practicaladvice is put up with referring to the course selection scheme, the credit management, theselection instructions, the class management system ect. In Grade one students havecompulsory classes in the form of administrative class while in Grade two in the form ofteaching-class. The school try to explore to set up the class management system by combinemonitor teacher and tutor together. Students selecting the same course make up a teachingclass, and class of this kind adopts tutor system.However, owning to this reformation refers to many problems in various fields, in the third part of thistreatise, some puzzles and problems are put up with that occur in the practical operation. All the schoolauthority, teachers and students are concerned about them. This treatise analyses the causes and bringsforward some solutions.
