Mental model is an intrinsic understanding of the individual to the characterization of external things.it can be used to describe, explain and predict things, and determine the way of the awareness of the outside world, affecting people’s reaction to the provocation made.High organic chemistry knowledge is a system itself with its special cognitive style. Most students have difficulty in the learning process, therefore, this research attempts to detect organic chemistry learning, the development situation of middle school students’ mental models in order to provide factual basis for the optimization of organic chemistry teaching in high school.On the basis of literature research, the first concept defines mental models, discussed issues related to mental models and learning of organic chemistry, And according to "Full-time compulsory education curriculum standard chemistry", "ordinary high school chemistry curriculum standards (experimental)" and teaching materials, under the guidance of except teachers in the construction of a scientific model of organic chemistry concepts to high school students’ mental model to measure the goodness of fit between models and science. And then through the combination of explanation,association,construction, application and interview, the 24 junior high students in Grade 2 and Grade 3 from Yang zhou, Jiang su province are as subjects for case studies,making a preliminary understanding of the students’mental model structure of organic chemistry. On this basis, select 258 students in Grade2 and Grade3 of two four-star high schools in Yang zhou, Jian su Province as subjects to conduct a survey in order to further understand the development of high school students mental model. In the process of the analysis of the evidence, the author with the help of map participants thinking, from the perspective of the richness of experience and knowledge, knowledge of structured degree, and discussed the application level of mental models. The results show that,(1) Organic chemistry in high school stage, the students form the mental models of the structure as the core, but have difficulty in the cognition of the structure of complex substances.(2) Students lack essential understanding of defining concepts, the concept of a high degree of abstraction prone to cognitive biases. In the mental model the formation process, the first occurrence or instance is repeatedly mentioned, more profound impression.(3) The existing knowledge need to constantly reproduce, the connection of old and new knowledge can better cure the mental models of the students. The existing experience and the teaching material content, have bigger influence on the mental model.(4) Students’ Memory Strategies need to be improved, most of the new information received by way of mechanical memory. When the complexity of the internalization of new information,they like to predict according to their own personal experience, with "by definition" way to understand.(5) Student has basically met the active construction of consciousness, and the timely summary and review can promote the knowledge system of structured,it is an important way to construct mental models. At the same time,mental model of the structure of the degree of knowledge determines the level of mental model of integrated applications.Overall, mental model of the integrated application level is low, in the process of learning to strengthen knowledge and life, enrich the understanding of context information, situation and effective matching of knowledge so that you can; promoting structured knowledge system in order to the correct solution to the problem.
