This article reflects on the understanding of mathematical expectation and the application situation of investigation and study of high school students, the main research senior 3 students’ understanding of the concepts of mathematical expectation level, cognitive problems in the process and application in the actual problem consciousness and ability.Throughout the study, the author of high school senior year 220 students conducted a questionnaire survey, the survey data for processing, has carried on the interview to some students, get the following conclusions:(1) the students in the definition of comprehensive random variable values link of semantic understanding and interpretation of results link problems; (2) according to Watson on the three levels of literacy, students in the second level can be understood in a real situation in statistical terms, the best first level understanding of basic statistical terms show center, and the third level to question the statistical judgment without proper reasons things out the performance is poor; (3) the students’ consciousness is relatively weak in application decisions, ability needs improvement.
