| Since the 21st century, with the rapid development of biological science and technology, its achievements and products have been widely used in the social life and production. It has become an urgent task of various countries and regions to improve the citizen’s scientific literacy. Biology is a foundation of natural science, and its development has extensive and profound influence to social development and scientific and technological progress and the improvement of human life quality. And it can cultivate high qualified personnel, and is the need of social economy and modern life, through permeating the STSE education into the biology teaching. However, the achievement of any education ideals and values, must carry out to the level of curriculum and teaching, so does the STSE education. And the implementation of the curriculum and teaching must have a certain carrier, although the carrier cannot be simply summed up in the teaching material, but the importance of the teaching material in STSE education cannot be neglected. In this study, I used literature analysis, content analysis, case analysis and induction to research the STSE education content in the GCSE Subject Criteria for Biology. And I also studied the STSE education content in the textbooks of the AS and A2,which is formulated by Assessment and Qualifications Alliance, through the theme, presentation, columns and features, and then drew the following conclusions:GCSE Subject Criteria for Biology not only integrated a lot of STSE education ideas into course objectives, but also included the STSE education content in the course content, as well as the evaluation target and evaluation scheme.Britain’s high school biology textbooks mainly integrated the STSE education content around the theme of biology and technology development, biology and social life, biology and ecology environment, biology and medical health. And it is not only based on the students’ social life experience, but also paid full attention to the Frontier disciplines about the latest developments in science and human health. The textbook presented the STSE education content through the the introduction, the body language and so on. On the layout of the directory, the textbook also paid attention to integrate the STSE education content into biological science content, and presented the STSE education directly in the form of a title of a chapter, section, and even unit. In addition, the use of a variety of Pictures and scientific exercises is also the feature of the English textbook. The columns, such as "application", "how science works", "learning activity", "practical","summary questions" and others in the textbook always used real life or life science events as the background, and they demanded students to find the ways to solve the problems by a variety of activities such as analysis, discussion and display. It has strong timeliness and openness, and is the centralized embodiment of the STSE education in this textbook.Through the study, we found that the characteristics of STSE education in the textbook is:illustrated, persuasive; Pay attention to life, close to the students; Widely in content and varied in presentation; To the topic type, openness. The author also carried on the thorough analysis on the "conservation of habitats" in Unit 4 section 2 in chapter 7 of the English A2 textbook from the learning objectives, introduction, body, application and how science works, scientific diagrams and summary questions. And I also had a resources development and migration application for it, namely made a preliminary analysis of the textbook and teaching idea for" the conservation of habitats" in the chapter 6 of the third compulsory textbook in China. In addition, I also put forward some Suggestions and enlightenment for the STSE education in our high school biology textbooks from textbook writers, teachers, and teaching, and finally I discussed some disadvantages of this research, such as the translation is not accurate, and I had not have a practical exploration for the theoretical study. Hope to offer some thoughts for the future studies. |
