Education is an important foundation for the development of a nation. Education changes constantly with social development. Major educational problems vary with time and place. The author presents her research on home-school cooperation on the basis of the current education environment and her own teaching experience in a local area in western China. In recent years urbanization and compulsory education equalization have brought great changes as well as undesired problems to primary and secondary education in western regions. Typical problems include relatively poor home education, little interaction between home education and school education and insufficient guarantee for students’ physical and mental development. Therefore, home-school cooperation should be vigorously promoted to create a better environment for primary and secondary education through joint efforts of both home education and school education circles.Home-school cooperation is indispensable for education development, school and home are closely linked, and students’ growth is inseparable from the joint efforts of school and home. Home-school cooperation is essential for students’ overall development, home education plays a big role in boosting such development and this role cannot be replaced by school education. Home-school cooperation is an inevitable product of the information age. Homes and schools are social organizations. In the information age, people communicate and interact with each other faster and more frequently, and homes and schools need to adapt to this trend. The author performed her research among entities (teachers, parents and students) pertinent to home-school cooperation in some primary and secondary schools in the New Area of Tongchuan City through literature research, questionnaire surveys and individual interviews. In this paper, the author intends to present and interpret the relevant data, results and findings, identify problems and their causes and propose solutions for the development of home-school cooperation.According to the research, both parents and teachers recognize the importance of home-school cooperation and tend to interact through modern communication means, but there are some problems with the content and form of home-school cooperation, both sides lack a positive attitude toward cooperation and the quality of home education still leaves much to be desired. For the the above-mentioned problems, the author recommends solutions to the parties concerned. Firstly, As the leader and regulator of home-school cooperation, competent education departments should formulate and optimize relevant administrative policies and scientific management systems, implement relevant plans to boost home-school cooperation continuously. Secondly, schools are the central stage for home-school cooperation, thus school authorities should be fully aware of its importance, promote public education and training, create a suitable atmosphere, enrich its content and build a home-school platform for two-way learning. Thirdly, As performers of home-school cooperation, teachers should have a correct understanding of its role, conduct relevant practical activities and proactively learn communication and cooperation skills and new media techniques. Finally, As important participants in their children’s education, parents should take an active role in home-school cooperation, improve their educational competence continuously and make joint efforts with school to promote the overall development of students’ mind and body.
