Private collection is one of the research directions of art management. Samuel Courtauld (1876-1947) was one of the most important private collectors in the first half of twentieth century in Britain. He had a wide variety of collections, especially well-known and universally acknowledged in collecting Impressionist. In this thesis, we take Courtauld as the research object, with the aim of taking Courtauld French modernist collection as well as his donations as clues, focus on studying the collection background of that time, his life, social relationship, sources of funds, collection ideals, purchase criteria, purchase forms and process, the decision-making basis for his purchase, and the relationship between his private collection and the public collections. At present, there are few domestic academic studies on Courtauld. The author strives to show the relationship between the private collections and public collections, as well as that of the public acceptance of art and art education. |
