Recently, with the growing recognition of the nature of chemistry education, the educators always think about the question that what should be remained in the mind of the students in our chemistry teaching. It won’t be the specific chemical reaction, nor some other chemical principles, it should be the ability that can recognize things and solve the problems chemically, it should be the formation of the chemistry core ideas in the mind of the students.Based on the properties of chemistry education, this study analyses the chemistry teaching material and teaching contents in middle school, and found that there are three chemistry core ideas in junior middle school: classification, conservation and particulates. The formation of the chemistry core ideas would not happen overnight, it needs training day and month. To improve the formation of the chemistry core ideas of the middle school students, this study started in experimental teaching, built the theoretical framework of the teaching method, and put it into practice.The study used action research. Based on Piaget’s theory of cognitive development and Viggo J Ki’s theory of "the zone of proximal development", and combined with the function of chemistry experiments, the author built the research model, and raised the different functions of Visual experiment, Verification experiment, and Exploratory experiment to the middle school students. Moreover, based on the analysis of the features of the teaching materials, the author classified and designed the practical cases. In addition, after one-term experiment teaching, she tested and interviewed her students about these three core ideas.The study shows that it is feasible and effective to improve the formation of the chemistry core ideas of the middle school students by experimental teaching. However, the formation of chemistry core ideas is constructed hierarchically, and the students get different levels according to their abilities, so the work needs to be done step by step.
