Concept is the generalization of things and the biology concept is the main content of the biology learning in junior high school.As the foundation of biology curriculum content, the biology concept is the key to learning biology well. Based on it, the teachers carry out the teaching activities, which can not only contribute to the students’ thorough understanding, but also make it easy to cultivate their ability to apply what they have learned flexibly.It is attempted in this thesis to explore the present situation of biology concept teaching in junior middle school, strive to discover the questions in the biological concept teaching and make rational suggestions so as to improve the biological concept teaching. In the research, the author has analyzed the present situation of biological concept teaching by referring to the massive document literature. In order to make the research time-limited and target-specific, the author has selected the partial teachers and the students of three junior middle schools in Dongying City as samples. The research is carried out by sending out the questionnaires,observing the classroom teaching and interviewing the subjects.According to the research statistics, two factors are generalized in the research that have the impact on the biological concept teaching in junior middle schools: the students’ subjective factors and teachers’ objective factors. Students subjective factors includes less-standard,less-abundant and less-explicit cognition structure, the imbalance of intelligent development and the instability of the psychological factors among students(e.g. students’ dispositions, learning motivations and attributes). Teachers’ objective factors boil down to the three aspects:deficient concept teaching theories, lack of innovation in introducing the concepts and less varied teaching in helping the students further understanding these conceptsIn view of these problems, the author makes the following suggestions:First, a favorable atmosphere of concept learning should be created. For one thing, the students must have certain learning consciousness. They should always keep in mind that learning requires concentration and they should be ready to consult teachers when encountering the problems in learning. For another, teachers should create a highly effective and interactive classroom teaching and establish the harmonious relations with students.Second, the theory study of concept teaching should be enhanced. Education departments organize the theme training for the teachers, with which the teachers can further understand the concepts and hence raise the consciousness of them, which will lay a solid foundation on applying them to the future teaching practice. Teachers also should strengthen the conceptteaching theory learning by sorting out what they have learned, keep informed of the latest development and adopt the new teaching method.Third, much importance should be attached to the innovation of introduction links. Great attention must be paid to the intuitive principle and the connections with the real life must be strengthened.Fourth, the teaching methods of deepening concepts should be improved. The concept teaching must follow the teaching principle of gradual development, highlight the essential characteristic of the concept, and establish the clear and concise concept diagram.
