Math in the secondary vocational school is a foundation course, which has some instructional functions when the students learn other subjects. However, there is a sharp decline in math learning in the vocational school with each passing year, with no critical thinking in the process of problem solving and few effective and efficient problem-solving methods. All these lead to little teacher-students interaction and the cramming education mode in class. Therefore, the study of problem-solving strategies in math learning becomes increasingly urgent.This paper, based on the poor mathematical foundation and a lack of critical thinking of the vocational students, aims to analyze the reverse thinking in the process of problem-solving, which will further improve their efficiency and interest in math learning. In normal teaching process, most teachers would adopt the regular “forward” method, namely, the method based on logics, rules and principles. The problem is the regular method would only make the problems more complex and more difficult for the students, which will thus hardly achieve our goal. On the other hand, if we try a reverse and critical thinking while teaching, the effect will be remarkably different.This paper mainly focuses on the following aspects: the background and significance of this study, the content and method on this problem, together with some theoretical and concept illustration. The paper, with the original idea of student-oriented, teacher-dominated, problem-connected as well as independent and collaboration exploration, also puts forward a reverse thinking strategy in teaching and learning procedure: analyzing the problem conditions, analyzing the problems from both sides, studying the solution to the problems(from both sides), enhance the reverse and critical thinking, summarizing the procedures and applying the theories to the real problem-solving process. Then, by studying the teaching practices of the reverse thinking, the paper brings up three effective strategies in the vocational math teaching: converse-reverse thinking strategy, weakness-learning reverse thinking, and transformational reverse thinking strategy. In the process of teaching and learning, their interest in math, their efficiency of learning as well as their critical thinking all has been considerably improved.
