Educational reproduction theory is an important part of Pierre Bourdieu’s Sociological Theory. In the middle of last century, the Western world generally believes that with the democratization of education, education has become a channel for social mobility; education welfare and the expansion of the educational scale, make people expect to achieve equality of educational opportunity; intelligence-based personal factors, has become the main reasons that create the differences of educational attainment or academic achievement. As critique of this general concept,Bourdieu proposed educational reproduction theory. He used "cultural capital", "education authority" and "symbolic violence" and other core concepts to demonstrate in detail how the advantages of family background may be transformed the dominant advantages of school culture and education, and cultural and educational advantages of such schools may be transformed into socioeconomic status in the future; he pointed out that this process is in essence an educational process of reproduction. It shows that the main function of school is not to provide social mobility, but to maintain and reproduce social inequality through cultural reproduction. School education plays a function legitimizing social inequality.Bourdieu’s theory of educational reproduction greatly influenced the future study on education and social mobility, but there are some critics. Educational reproduction theory has been criticized as a kind of structural determinism, that it ignores the education connotation flow function, innovative features and capabilities of personal development, namely the education initiative is placed out of sight. In the above study first extension line, this article focuses on the education initiative and reproduction problems. Specifically, from two levels: First, Bourdieu’s theory of reproduction education itself whether there is an internal initiative space exists; secondly, the concept of introducing education initiative reproduction theory, this is possible? This paper attempts to explore this question. This paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, in addition to introduced the background, ideas and methods, on previous research on reproduction theory of Bourdieu education and papers relevant to the subject of the sort. The second chapter from personal experience, theoretical and ideological origins and social conditions three aspects grasps the background of Bourdieu’s theory of reproduction; and then based primarily on the book "Reproduction in Education,Society and Culture" to expand Bourdieu’s Reproduction Theory. The main job is twofold: First, from the "cultural arbitrary", "education authority", "cultural capital", "habit" and other core concepts start to grasp the logic of reproduction education;second is French Higher Education Research experience Bourdieu analyzed.Empirical Research on Higher Education in France, is both practical sources from that Bourdieu created educational reproduction theory, but also to which Bourdieu applied and verified theory of reproduction. The third chapter from the cultural capital, the relative independence of education, mobility, false consciousness four angles, looks for "initiative" in the presence of space from Bourdieu’s theory of reproduction internal education; through systematic analysis about the relationship between education and social mobility it reveals the possibility of leading "initiative" into education theory of reproduction: the student may obtain liquidity; school structure can break and lead the trend. The fourth chapter has tried to use the educational theory of reproduction with "initiative" meaning to discuss some "fairer" paths of Chinese education and the function of educational expectation from family. Finally, the conclusion summarizes the contents of this paper and made a number of shortcomings. The study makes some conclusions: First, Bourdieu’s educational reproduction theory provide some space for "initiative"; second, we can introduce the concept "initiative" into educational theory of reproduction, making it become a comprehensive theory that contains structural and motility; third, on the road breakthrough the reproduction structure of school education, more equitable education policy is indispensable as well as educational expectations from family.Needless to say, structural and educational initiative is a comprehensive issue that needs more deep discussion, the author of this research will continue it in the future.
