The Chinese middle school students spend so such time in learning English. Yet they still find it too difficult to learn it well. As a matter of fact, there are so many underachievers in English learning.There are many causes which produce difficulties in English learning. For instance, there is much difference between their mother tongue (Chinese) and English, or they have not mastered the spelling well, which is a must_obtained skill. But among all these causes, one of the most important is that the underachievers do not bear a strong willed character. Based on a great deal of investigation and research, this essay carries out both qualitative and quantitative analysis on the will character of the underachievers in English learning.This essay consists of three parts:Part One A Brief for the Problems to Be Put ForwardPart Two Research Methods, Process and ResultsPart Three Analysis and DiscussionBased on the analysis on the related research both at home and abroad, and the analysis on a great deal of data as well, the author draws a conclusion that one of the main causes which leads to the result of difficulties in English learning is that the underachievers do not bear a strong willed character, and it is also found that the four different elements of will-character (consciousness, decisiveness, self_control and perseverance) show different degrees of influence on English learning, among which consciousness and preserverance have much stronger influence on the underachievers than decisiveness and self_control do. The investigation and research results mentioned above, provides authentic proof which can be taken into consideration in the work of promoting those underachievers in English learning.
