Since Flavell proposed the conception of "metacognition" in 1976, psychologists and pedagogic educators hi the world have already done lots of investigation. It was found that the development of metacognition had important and special meaning among student's thinking characteristics, academic ability, problem solving and development of intelligence. But seeing through the situation now, the investigation still stays in a low standard, and at the same time, still has some corrupts. Firstly, not consider the level of most middle school students. Secondly, not combine with special subjects. As a result, it causes the investigation of metacognition theory too abstract, and cann't direct the reality very well in some degree.Based on the investigation of metacognition theory and some research about metacognition that had been done, the article discussed the meaning of metacognition, and combining with the subject of mathematics, it also discussed the expression of metacognition in mathematical study and the importance for studying mathematics. Through the investigate questionnaire, we realized that, firstly, the level of mathematical metacognition of most middle school students was lower and it could not been improved along with the growth; secondly, the student's metacognition were different according to their sex; thirdly, there was relationship between metacognition and achievement. At last, based on the investigation and study, the thesis raised tactics which developed mathematical teaching, that was, teaching some knowledge about mathematical metacognition to students, making students know which factors affect their own thinking, exposing the characteristics of metacognition thinking in the teaching, encouraging the students and helping them to make plans, developing their habits of rethinking, creating the circumstances of mathematical metacognition, using computer as assistant teaching method.The thesis combined the rneory with practice, by using many research methods, such as the methods of investigate questionnaire, analysis, articles, statistics, and test, etc. Furthermore, this thesis referred to development viewpoint of the dialectical materialism.
