'The Eight-year Study", a well-known educational experiment was initiated by Progress Education Association in 1930s America It evoked nation-wide repercussions, gained positive cooperation from about 30 schools and 300 colleges or universities, and turned out to be a big success. This thesis discusses several aspects of the study, for example, the background, the process, the products and influence. This article, in addition to Introduction, is divided into tour parts.Part I aimed at giving a introduction of the social and educational background of "The Eight-year Study". During 1929, the economic crisis lead to economic recession in America, and in the world, as a whole, and caused people to recheck and reevaluate the courses offered, teaching programs, as well as the relation between university and high school and to have a new demand for education. There were many voices for reform of educational institution to fit in with the needs of the society and pupils.The process of this study will be stated in Part II. The participating universities enrolled new students according to the recommendation of the principal instead of the old entrance examination, the schools, working together had enough liberty to plan respective teaching program and method .Part III will expound the achievement of the study from two respects. It have set up the system of educational aim, of curriculum, of appraising in terms of theory. There were better results from participating students. What's more, it improved the relation between high schools and universities.Part IV will analyze the influence of this study upon American education and try to draw inspiration from it to our education reform during present stage, especially the college-entrance institution, and then promote the development of the relation between high schools and universities.
