For Senior Citizens, Elderly Care Resources And Influencing Factors

The number and the proportion increasing of the oldest old aged 80+ is a feature of Chinese population in the 21st century. With the coming of this trend, there comes a warning fact that the health condition of the aged population will become poorer. Meanwhile, the fact that there are more stupid and staying-bed people will request more people to be involved in the old man nursery and caring, including the responsibility in the families and the society.At the present, family support for elderly is the major style in China and the family members will mainly take the responsibility to do the work. But, the future social situation will be a one of less family members, smaller family structure, the great possibility of independent living and the weaker concept of being filial of the young generation will decrease the proportion of the caring from the families. Therefore, There will be a shortage of resource regarding the family support for elderly.As a result, the conflict is that the oldest old aged 80+ is increasing and the caring proportion is decreasing. This fact highlights the challenge the society is facing. How to meet the need of the oldest old aged 80+ will be the focus of government work and will also be the hot issue to be considered for the whole society.Based on the data of the healthy longevity survey in China 1998, after an analysis on the oldest old aged 80+ health condition, their activities of daily living abilities and the composition of their caregivers, this paper will mainly discuss the creation of a new aged people caring system which requires the cooperation of families, community and the society for the purpose to improve the living condition of the oldest old aged 80+ and to seek for an approach to solve their caring problem and to have the whole society develops in a peaceful and harmonious way.
