With the development of technology and economy, the renewal cycle of knowledge has been accelerating quickly As a result, the in-service professionals are feeling that what they have learned previously is outdated, and cannot meet the demands of the social development. Another factor which has contributed to the requirement is the global competition It is those who possesses advanced technology that can stand out in the competition What's more, the concept of lifelong education has already liberated the idea of traditional education. And once-and-for-all education is gone forever. Therefore, a continuing education has been posed on the country, society and individuals.In Chiia, the continuing education for the professionals has been developing quickly. At the same time, various problems have emerged It is imperative to do some research on how to guarantee the transformation from the traditional experience-based curricula to the science-based curricula, on how to develop the scientific and efficient curricula for the professionals. These are the purposes of the present thesis.The thesis consists of five parts:Introduction: a historical review of the development of continuing education.Chapter one: the definition of the development of continuing education for professionals and an analysis of its historical and present situation.Chapter two: analysis of the theoretical background of the continuing education curriculum for the professionals with reference to the curriculum theories, including psychology, sociology, philosophy and the development of lifelong education .Chapter three: a descriptive analysis of three kinds of developmental models for continuing education.Chapter four: Based on the above analysis and the analysis of the practice of the curriculum development for the professionals, a eight-move development technique is put forward. They are: 1) needs analysts of curriculum, 2) a goal set up for curriculum development;3) primary design of curriculum; 4) establishment of curriculum; 5) compiling courses; 6) choice of teaching methodology; 7) course practice; 8) curriculum evaluationLastly, it is to be hoped that this thesis will make some contributions to the curriculum development of continuing education for professionals.
