Current Study On The Development Of Continuing Education In China

The progress of the cause of continuing education plays an increasingly important role in enhancing the quality of domestic people and the core-competitiveness of a country. The 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has stated its importance,"Distance learning and continuing education will be promoted to make ours a society in which every citizen is committed to learning and pursues lifelong learning."Therefore, it is of great significance to promote the development of the continuing education as well as the development of domestic economy and society and it is an urgent political task for the educators to further explore the basic theories concerning the continuing education, to analyze the development of this cause, to locate the problems and solutions and ultimately to establish a continuing education system in Conformity with the National Conditions.This thesis consists of four parts.The first part mainly defines the concept of and analyses the basic theories concerning the continuing education, and goes further to clarify the differences among the concepts of continuing education, the adult education and the life-long education, followed by the characteristics and functions of continuing education.The second part elaborates on the history and achievements of continuing education in china. It summarizes the achievements in continuing education and emphasizes the profound significance of promoting continuing education with the rising and progress of continuing education as its basis.The third part deals with the problems existing in continuing education, including the indistinctness of the significance of continuing education, the tendency of emphasizing the marks rather than the capability, of emphasizing the knowledge and skills rather than the professional ethics, the imbalance of progress, and various problems in the field of management of continuing education.To deal with the problems in continuing education, the fourth part puts forward some solutions, mainly including strengthening the legislation, building up the notion of life-long learning, promoting the innovation, exploring creative education mode, and ultimately to establish a continuing education system in Conformity with the National Conditions.
