Under the trend of new curriculum reform in our country, the society pays much more attention to basic art education than before. Accordingly, art education in middle schools is viewed more important, and the requirements towards art teachers are higher. Therefore, art teachers need to be more professional to adapt to the high requirements. No matter they are novice teachers or experienced teachers, both their professional knowledge and comprehensive quality should be practiced and improved, rather than stay the same. In order to keep pace with the times, improve themselves continuously and gain better achievements in their teaching, the best way for art teachers in middle schools is to, without any doubt, accept continuing education to some extent and keep studying while teaching to make progress together with students, responding to the call of the sixteenth CPC national congress and the Ministry of Education. They should ceaselessly enrich and renew their major knowledge and accomplishment based on the needs of society and students. However, according to my understanding during the internship, most of the art teachers in middle schools are just immersed in the current situation. Some teachers are even not serious towards teaching and ignore the importance of art education to students’development, which not only reduce the quality of basic art education but also do harm to students’all-round development. As a result, it is quite necessary for art teachers in middle schools to accept continuing education, with the purpose of keeping studying and improving themselves.This thesis aims to explore the significance of continuing education towards art teachers’professional development and accomplishments based on understanding and analyzing the current situation of art teaching in middle schools during the internship. Meanwhile, it responses to the call of developing continuing education in our country, discusses the job burnout among art teachers and lists the circumanstances which are unfavorable to the development of art education. On the basis of continuing education, the real status of basic art education and the characteristics of students, the thesis analyzes the positive effect of continuing education to art teachers as well as the great meaning of continuing education to art teachers’professional development and comprehensive quality improving. At the same time, this paper pays attention to the practical use, so there are lots of related teaching cases, in the hope of providing sufficient theoretical evidence to prove the necessity of continuing education to art teachers. What’s more, it comes up with those questions which should be paid attention to during continuing education from the angle of teachers’all-round development. As a result, art teachers can not only realize the importance of continuing education but also know about the questions that should be noticed during the process.
