Centering on the teaching strategy, recognizing region, this article study the new course and new curriculum of geography by means of consulting literature, comparison and analysis approach, teaching practice and case analysis, etc. It tries to seek applicable teaching strategies for middle school geography teachers. The article generally covers three aspects as follows:First, this article concerns constructing cognitive structure of recognizing region. First, it raises the train of thought for constructing cognitive structure of recognizing region, i.e. finding out and synthesizing the outstanding characteristics and marks of the region, thus bringing out its overall features. The second step is to construct the cognitive structure of recognizing region on geographical differences. Geographical differences are reflected through comparing geographical characteristics with other regions of the same grade. To understand these differences, two angles of view can be adopted, among the regions and within a region. Finally, the cognitive structure of regional relations and regional development is constructed. Each step of the cognitive structure is designed to achieve certain objective.Second, this article discusses how to develop students' capability of geography in teaching recognizing region. Care must be taken to develop students' geographical space perception, their geographical information-process ability, their ability of analysis, imagination and simple calculation of geographical process and their ability and awareness of solving concrete problems with geography knowledge.Finally, this article approaches the application of illustration in recognizing region. That the teacher selects and introduces living geographical examples in class provides students with an opportunity of experiencing what they have learned, thus constructing his / her own schema. The teacher selects and analyzes examples and instructs students to synthesize and transform knowledge, which enable students to see space structure of the whole region and get practice of methodology.In order to explore methods of solving concrete problems in geography teaching, the author sums up a series of teaching strategies by studying the new curriculum and new textbooks, consulting references and observing other teachers' classes with the help of the Teaching and Researching Groupof Chaoyang District, Changchun. Some teachers' experiments have achieved good results ?the participant students are able to recognizing region effectively.Recognizing region is the most important part in the reform of new textbooks that lots of teachers are studying. Many teaching strategies have not been approved authoritatively, which hinders students' study and their communication with the teacher. On the basis of plenty of previous achievements in research, in the light of her own teaching experience, the author proposes teaching strategies in recognizing region that will benefit the efficiency of geography teaching. In this article, each strategy is illustrated with cases so that it can by applied by middle school geography teachers.
