A Preliminary Study Of The Tujia Areas Of Higher Education

Based on the investigation of Hubei institute for Nationalities and JiShou University, which lie in the west of Hunan province and Hubei province where mainly live nationalities of Tujia and Miao, I collected plentiful datum and information that show the foundation, characteristics, existing problems and developing policies of the two institutes. Adding second-hand materials collected by other means, I make a elementary study on higher education in the minority areas of Tujia by the way of systemic analysis of the datum and materials from the points of view of ethnology and educational management.The paper consists of six chapters. In the first place, starting with a brief account of the educational history in the minority areas of Tujia, I introduce the geographical environment, national and cultural characteristics of the areas. Because there mainly live the minorities of Tujia and Miao in the areas, the higher education in the minority areas of Tujia especially aims at the two nationalities. The education accepted by them was deeply affected by the culture of Han, I take an analysis of the introduction and impact of the culture of Han upon the areas, depending on which, I give an account of the history of the higher education in the minority areas of Tujia. As the first chapter, it provides the history background and theory bases for analyzing the history of higher education in the minority areas of Tujia.Furthermore, from the second to the fourth chapter, according to the existing state of Hubei institute for Nationalities, including basic facilities,the structure of teachers, origin of the students, employment status of graduates, subject developing, status of science and research and so on, I study the conditions and outline the characteristics to run an institute or a university in minority areas of Tujia, At the same time, I point out the questions primarily existing in aspects of finance % teachers and subjects in developing higher education in the area. In the three chapters, I make a careful and deep analysis of the facts with the guidance of theory and a lot of graphs.In the last part, includes the fifth and sixth chapters, I suggest that the policies of developing higher education in the minority areas of Tujia should be to more stand out characteristics, to adjust the frame of subjects and specialities, to develop the mode of running school with different levels and by various means, to strengthen the alliance with the other institutes and universities and to increase opportunities of employments of graduates. At last, I believe it is high time for the institute and the university to take the opportunities and grasp the nettle to make great contribution to higher education in minority areas of Tujia.Through elementary study on higher education in the minority areas of Tujia, I become to realize the broad prospect of it. If the two institutes insist on a general, harmonious, developing and scientific view, they are bound to provide more talents for the exploiting of the west of china .
