Sensation seeking is defined as seeking of varied, novel, complex, and intense sensations and experience, and the willingness to take physical, social, legal, and financial risks for the sake of such experience. It is a new and important direction in the examination of individual difference. Researchers have discovered that sensation seeking has various manifestations in character and behavioral style and affects mental health. This research developed Chinese version sensation seeking scale for senior high school students, analyzed the construction of sensation seeking and explored the relationship between sensation seeking, coping style and negative moods in college entrance examination stress process.The results indicated that:1. Sensation Seeking Scale for Chinese senior high school students was composed by four factors: thrill and adventure seeking, experience seeking, disinhibition and boredom susceptibility.2. The difference of coping style between high and low sensation seekers was the direction of behavior. The sensation seekers preferred withdraw and abreaction than non-sensation seeker, while non-sensation seekers preferred ask for help than sensation seeker.3. In college entrance examination stress process, score on thrill and adventure seeking was correlated with anxiety, scores on thrill and adventure seeking and disinhibition were correlated with depression.4. Problem solving, withdraw, ask for help and restrain could reduce the negative moods caused by college entrance examination stress, while illusion and abreaction could increase them.5. Coping style was a moderator in the buffering process of sensation seeking in stress.
