Mathematics is one of the Core-General modules which every student in a post-secondary institution has to learn. The situation is that many students of post-secondary institutions don' t feel like mathematics, they are short of motivation, and their grades usually are very low, all the above cause the long term effect that they have poor performance at mathematics study and the quality of post-secondary institution education was seriously affected.During my teaching practice, my research on factors affecting students' motivation in study shows that the reasons behind could be objective and subjective. Nowadays, students in post-secondary institutions usually got poor grades, less attention when they studied at secondary schools, and the consequence is they had negative attitude, less self-respect as well as less confidence. Lack of good study habit, stamina and effective study methods also caused their negative attitude and fear to mathematics. Base on a broad investigation, there should be four factors affecting students' motivation in study: intention of study, interest of study, habit of study and stamina in study, hence students can be divided into to two categories: lack of motivation and lack of stamina. In this thesis, proper training methods were addressed for the above two types of students accordingly, and the considerable achievement obtained through the teaching practice and comparative research during Mar. 2003 to Jan. 2004 was described. Theinitial outcomes of teaching research were summarized, evidences supporting relevant research topics were provided.
