A new image era occurred after the totem era and word era. The developmentof photography and communication technology, especially the development ofInternet technology, makes the image spread become convenient and fast. A greatdeal of image information holds the main part of human lives, flood every part ofhuman lives by cartoon pictures, televisions, movies, videophones, multimedia,internet and so on. How the geography teaching in high school, whose prominenttrait is image spreading, accords with the trait of image era, and realizes theteaching purpose effectively has really become the focus of research.This article is based on pedagogy, psychology and communication theory,explores the teaching rules and functions of geography images deeply. So it isuseful to accelerate subject teaching and relevant theory research.This article investigated the trait and the function of geography image,disclosed the geography things and phenomenon and their rules of changes from theangle of information machining and information spreading theory. This articleinvestigated the cognitive structure and geography image and building process ofgeography ideas from the angle of color sense psychology of geography, thecognitive of geography idea, the machining theory of geography information andbuilding-up theory. This article studies the functions of geography image teachingfrom the thinking trait, thinking quality, personality development, self-idea,paradoxical psychology of high school students. This article investigates the imagecommunication system of high school geography from the teaching angle. Thisarticle investigates the influence of geography image transition to the students'geography study from the angle of information spreading. This article investigatesthe geography image teaching and the training of students' feelings, attitudes andvalues.Strengthening the geography image teaching is helpful to improve the interestsand enthusiasm of students' study and advance the students' study achievement byinvestigation research. So this article is useful to geography educators.The main innovations of this article are as follows: first, put forward the ideaof combining the color psychology and geography image teaching;second,investigate the influence of the geography symbol, semantic and imageinformation's transition on the high school students' study and the training of highschool students' feelings, attitudes and values on the process of geography imageteaching;third, discuss the use of geography image teaching to students'intelligence and skills.
