Since human society walked into Information Society, information technology and new educational theory have been developed constantly. The idea of lifelong learning and the development of the network technology become the power which promotes the transform of traditional universities and colleges. Internet and World Wide Web support the change from technique aspect. Higher education institutions all over the world make a point of developing online education, applying the advanced information technology to transform the traditional way of teaching to face the challenge of the new era.Universities and colleges at home have developed web-facilitated education based on the construction of the infrastructure of educational informationlization, facilitating the educational implement of network technology. Does the cost on hardware and software work? How has the network technology been used in education? Are our instructors ready for the network environment? These problems are easily ignored in the wave of reformation, but they are essential. As the research on online education field goes further, scholars and authorities consider interaction as the key element which affects the success of online education. In this paper, the author tried to discuss the asynchronous instructor-student interaction in the web-facilitated education environment in the traditional university. After describing the application of the network in education as an assistant way of face-to-face education, the author analyses the character of asynchronous instructor-student interaction, discusses the way to facilitating this kind of interaction. This research in the context of Web School of Capital Normal University combined qualitative with quantitative methods. Part of the students logged on the platform was investigated by a designed questionnaire and part of the instructors taught on the platform was interviewed. The author also launched observation on the text memorized by the platform. These aspects were analyzed: the participation of the students, the content of the instructor- student interaction, and the role of the instructor in the interaction and so on.The result of the study indicates that the quality of the instructor-student interaction is the essential element affects the students' effectiveness and the satisfaction to the online education. The grade of the students and the frequency log on the platform affect the degree of satisfaction, but the gender and the prior online learning experiment do not.By analyzing the content of the instructor-student interaction, the author find that there are three kinds of instructor-student interaction in the Web School: cognitive interaction, teaching interaction and emotional interaction. The cognitive interaction plays an important part of the three kinds. Students are satisfied with the quality of the instructor- student interaction.According to the study results, the author gives some advice about how to facilitate the active participation of students in the web-facilitated education and how to set new roles of instructors in the network environment.
