This paper presents the necessity and feasibility of bilingual teaching and the solutions to the existent problems based on large amounts of facts. It is served as a reference for the development of bilingual teaching in Dehong Prefecture."The diversity of human culture is a simbol of the development of human." Multi-cultural education should include minority bilingual language teaching. To practise bilingual teching in minority district not only can adapt the minorities to modern society and let them get much better development, but also can let them inherit and develop minority cultural heritage. It is known that bilingual teaching is the best way for preserving the diversity of language and culture. Affected by the conception, teachers, outlay and teaching material, Dehong bilingual teaching is declining and even existing in name only in some schools. This peper first presents the importance of bilingual teaching to keep the diversity of Dehong culture on the basic of economy, politics and culture, then argues the necessity of practising bilingual teaching from social requirement and the demand of promoting educational quality. In some regions where the ethinic groups live in a compact communities, few minority students learn Chinese before they go to school, which greatly affect their Chinese study. Only when the teachers use bilingual teaching method can they communicate with these students and improve their teaching quality.
