Social Structure And Population Development

Blossom-change flower(?) has ever become fashionable for a period of time around China for its wizard effect of changing the sex of embryos. Because of this, people have taken this herb expecting to smoothly implement the birth-control policy around China. About a decade and a half has passed; the effect of the flower is still a puzzle. Here, I call the flower and the relevant issue as a legend, because people, not only start to oppugn its existence, while the real miracle of Demography taken place in Zhan li Dong village, Guizhou province, where is the blossom-change flowers grow, is not something hypothesized. For centuries, in this village, the population in the village has been constantly maintaining the amount of 700 in 160 home families. Both male and female structurally keep the proper proportion, as well as the reasonable structure of different ages of its people. Currently in the world, there existing universally some problems difficult to deal with, such as the tendency of age-upgrading, sex imbalance of infants, and the sustainable increase of population etc, while these problems has never been in touch with people in the village. Does the Change-blossom flower really have wizard efficacy? Is this a miracle or the truth?What anthropology research emphasized on is culture as a whole,parts of this holistic structure represented a relatively stable and osculated relations. Therefore, while researching on each part of the culture, other parts interrelated should be included as well. The Change-blossom flower is only part of the whole culture, other culture phenomena can not be ignored, such as the manner of living, the social structure, the concept of living etc, these aspects altogether formed a united and harmonious main body. The main body functions more than the summation of the parts. The flower only functions with miracle in the main body as part of it, if not, its functions nothing, or even functions adversely.The Contemporary anthropologist Pierre Bourdieu put forward the concept "Habitus". The Habitus has the character of instance, which is decent generally if it is formed in the concrete conditions and backgrounds of education. On the surface, it is subjective and formed unconsciously, but in fact, it is the internalization and subjectivity under the social structure. Dongzu in Zhanli in the long run formed the Habitus of controlled population and demographic-structure is the internalization and the subjectivity of their special social structure. For a better understand and research the population in Zhanli, I, after a long term fieldwork of participant observation and in deep survey, investigated the current situations of population and social structure by the reference to the theories of the Demology, the Sociology and the Statistics. And I also probes into the mode of development of population since centuries ago,especially after the found of the new country People's Republic of China with an analysis of the reasons of forming the concept of controlling the population.The basic structure of the thesis includes the following seven parts.The Chapter one is the guideline of the thesis, which includes the goal of the topic selected, the theory and the realistic meaning of the research.The Chapter two provided the information in the Dongzu place, such as the environment, the structure, and the means of living and the history of the community.The Chapter three is about the history and current situation of the development of the population. The culture of population is the characteristic in Zhanli.The Chapter four is the organizational structure of the village investigated, which includes the social organization and the kinship.The Chapter five is about the customs under the regulations. It covers the Zhanli phenomenon of the continuation of different regulations. Such as the marriage, the naming custom, the kin titles, heir relations, support approaches and funerals etc.The Chapter six is the population change and the village structure. I focused on the change-follower grass of its functions as a means of controlling wizardly: the materialization of the birth control concept and the internalization of the social structure. Behind the change-flower grass,this is a field or scene, not only the simple grass.The conclusion comes in the Chapter seven. It is a summary and induction of the whole thesis.The thesis is a sample of the development process of the population. Although it is a single phenomenon, yet is meaningful as the reference. People's upsurge of pursuing of change-flower grass should be subdued. Whatever, the appealing of the first population village still exists, which will continue driving us to explore and discover. The policy of birth control should be scientifically concerned with its efficiency and methods during the period of development, especially the reinforcement of the structural work expanded, in order to be a self-conscious action in the concept of people. From this thesis, we can see that the people in the village of Zhanli have set-up a good model.
