Baskets Yao Marriage And Family Changes

Yao people is an ancient ethnic who originated from China and migrated in the country and out because of many reasons in history. During the long history and the cause of constantly migration Yao people had created ancient and distinctive ethical culture of his own to adapt the changes of environment and different cultures. Hualan Yao people is one of five Yaos in Guangxi Dayao Mountain . After the failing of Da Tengxia Yao People Rising, Hualan Yao people was driven to Dayao Mountain. They overcame the badly environment, survived and multiplied for generations, and created the particular upland culture.In Sep. 18^th 1935, Mr. Fei Xiaotong and his former wife, Ms Wang Tonghui first went to Dayao Mountain to make investigation, lived and worked there for a long time, and established deep relationship with the locals. In Jun. 1936, a book named Hualan Yao Social Structure written by Fei Xiaotong published. In this book, Mr. Fei introduced the manufacture and living conditions of Hualan Yao systemically, and also made Liuxiang village, an outlying village, famed by all people.In Aug. 3th 2005, after 70 years of the first Dayao Mountian investigation of Fei Xiaotong, my teacher, my classmates and I, five persons of us went to Liuxiang village to make an reinvestigation. This thesis is written on the base of the reinvestigation, and makes the book Hualan Yao Social Structure as basepoint. It describes and analyses the changes of marriage, family and social structure of Hualan Yao. It is not only a living conditions study of minority people, but also a good understanding to great changes that China had taken place in this phase.In cause of studying, the author adopted many sociology methods, such as questionnaire, participant observing, deep interviewing and literature studying etc., to try to collect all-around and in-depth information.There are five chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is an introduction, mainly introduces the background, significance and purpose of this article written, sums up the related theories, and elaborates the methods taken by this investigation.The second chapter Huanlan Yao in Jinxiu Dayao Mountain, introduces the geography and social position of Hualan Yao in Yao people of Dayao Mountain, the village and social conditions of Liuxiang, and the content summarization of Hualan Yao Social Structure.The third chapter describes the changes of marriage of Hualan Yao people, compares Hualan Yao marriage between traditional and modern times from several aspcts, such as the range of marriage, the reaching of marriage, the ceremony of marriage and conception of marriage etc.The forth chapter describes the changes of family of Hualan Yao people, the comparison and analysis are carried out from following aspects of family: size and structure, fuctions, the relationship of members and inherit systemetc.The last chapter is about the discussion of changes of Hualan Yao social organization. And in the end, it sums up and analyzes the characteristics and reasons of changes taken place in Hualan Yao.
