Nowadays, China is in the transformative process from planned economy to marketeconomy. Due to the tremendous change in the whole society, marriage and familyrelationship has been greatly influenced, in which a great number of problems emerge. As isknown to all, family, as a basic social unit bonded by blood and marriage, involving adoptionof course, is not only a compositive unit of the society, but also the basis of it. The stabilityand harmony of the society rely on the happiness and felicity of families, which infers thatwithout the stability of families, there is no stability of the society. Hence the construction ofstable and harmonious marriage and family relationships becomes an indispensible job forbuilding a harmonious socialist society. In order to accomplish the job, China, as a socialistcountry, should first of all stick by Marxism and pay special attention to the remarks ofEngels who is one of the founders of such scientific world view and methodology. As isproved, facing the issue of love, marriage and family, Engels is the first classical Marxistwriter who had a thorough and profound exploration, the evidence of which is his renownedwork The Origin of Family, Private Property and the State.In view of this, this thesis, entitled“Engels’ Views of Marriage and Family and Its valueson solving marriage and Family problems in Contemporary China”, so as to clarify the basicviewpoints on the subject and their functions as well as significance at the present time. Toachieve the objective, the thesis first has a review of Engels’s discourse on the history anddevelopment of marriage and family and makes a conclusion on his basic viewpoints on theissue; the second part gives a presentation and analysis on the domestic problems during theperiod of society transition in our country and proposes that the main manifestations are theincreasingly obvious tendency of materialization in marriage, the increase of inequalitybetween husband and wife, the decrease of loyalty between spouses, the occasionaloccurrence of domestic violence, the contradiction between generations and so on; in thethird part, the thesis expatiates Engels’s view on marriage and family from practicalperspectives and draws the conclusion that it is a guide to action for Chinese citizens’seekingof happiness and felicity. To build a correct view on marriage and family, people aresupposed to absorb the spiritual resources from Engels’s view and advocates.
