As we all know,Active and Self-directed Learning, the basic concept of New Course Standard, is not only the need of fostering qualified persons who can keep abreast of the times ,but also the need of the education aimed at training persons to be bold in bringing forth new ideas. This concept has attracted global attention in the field of education, especially in the field of maths.The target of my article is to approach a subject of how to develop the students'ability to study on their own in the classroom instruction.Related to the different understandings both at home and abroad, it presents the concept the definition and the characteristic of independent study and raises the importance of studying the subject. It shows us the present state of independent study in practical maths teaching. By making several close surveys among students, it concludes that what affects the implement of independent study are some factors, such as the students'study motives. And it further adances some teaching principles.It also advances some strategies and methods of studying on their own. and how to transform their parts for teachers in the classroom teaching. Finally, it mostly expounds the practical methods of developing students'ability of studying on their own, and empasize the importance of arousing students'study motives, ensuring the students'principal parts and their practical performance in their study. It's advised that it's necessary and important to develop this kind of ability, create an active study atmosphere for the students, learn the essence of maths, improve their quality in maths and become a qualified person in the society.
