Reconstruction Of The Belief Space: The Anthropology Of The The Xiangxi Old Village, Guanyin Foot Of Um Investigated

This article revolves an old village temple's reconstruction of Huayuan County in Western Hunan, through the ethnography way, to discuses the situation under social gender, community interaction, symbolic capital utilization and people's participation reason in the folk religious belief activities.Firstly, this article discussed the participation situation in women's belief activities by the social gender view. Women's participation mainly influenced by two aspects: One is in the local traditional culture idea: taboo notion and geomancy view; the other is the different social division which causes the social environmental transition. Both urged women to play the main role in the belief activities. Next, women's participation is one kind of behaviors in cultural recreation, they not only have reconstructed the substance space of village temple, moreover, pay great attention to spirit space in the reconstruction which focused on the spread of efficacious stories, writing wall culture and the introduction of divination label.Secondly, this article focused on four interaction communities: xianghui, family, village and country in the village temple reconstruction. Elaborated separately their attitude, behavior and contradiction. In the village temple reconstruction. On the village temple reconstruction, the four communities have separately used the cultural capital, the economical capital and the social capital to deal with questions. In the contemporary countryside community's public activity, xianghui and family as representatives of unofficial authority have many more fuctions than village and country as representatives of official authority.Thirdly, the article narrated the Lao village farmers' behaviors by thick description on the Huiji day, not only unfolding different culture meaning of sacred ceremony and common custom entertainment, also discussing the different crowd (belief audiences and non-belief audiences, male and female, party members and nonmembers)participation form and manners. In this kind of communality activities, the villagers and the belief audiences look like paying much more attention to entertainment itself but not the belief experiences.Finally, this article placed the foothold at the reason discussion why the local people want to believe Bodhisattva. Though Belief reason relates to religious function and utilitarian of belief, its true performance is actually created by historical reason and, social reason. Making concrete to Huayuan county area, the people seek help from gods and Buddhas that mainly is restrained by economy, science, traditional culture and entertainment leisure and so on.
