Pistols are one of the self-defensive weapons in close quarters for police, which are characterized by small size, low weight, and convenience for carrying and use. It is one of the basic techniques for police to master how to shot with pistols. At present public security colleges mainly take the responsibility of fostering police forces, so construction of a suitable and scientific teaching pattern of shooting in public security colleges is very vital. The article finds that "emphasis on basic knowledge, basic techniques and basic skills, and exertion of teachers' leading role" are still popular in teaching based on the survey of present practice of shooting teaching in colleges. Based on traditional teaching patterns, the teaching pattern of shooting in public security college is also centered on courses where teachers lead the role and organize students' study and tests using traditional physical education ways. In this teaching pattern, the contents are simple and non-practical. The trainees can only master basic shooting techniques and odd action ways, but have no access to vivid real practice and training with mixed police forces and cooperation. Thus, the trainees can not obtain thorough training in techniques and real-combat psychology. When they face criminals, they can't fully utilize their skills and techniques. Though there exist many defects in the shooting teaching in public security colleges, a proper and scientific teaching pattern has not been formed yet. The article intends to explore a new effective teaching pattern of shooting based on the idea of "Human-oriented, Life-caring" and guiding thought of cultivating qualified policemen.
