This paper studies how the teachers in University (for Northwest University as example) feel about their job satisfaction and occupational stress. It attempts to make recommendations on the basis of the study. In addition, this study aims at improving the teaching quality by understanding the job satisfaction and occupational stress of University teachers and the way to increase their job incentives.An intensive literature review about the job satisfaction and occupational stress of teachers has been done. Based on the literature review, the questionnaire to find out the levels of job satisfaction and occupational stress of University teachers has been designed and a sampling survey has been conducted to the full-time teachers in Northwest University. 500 copies of questionnaires have been returned and collect 384 valid copies. The data was analyzed using statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, t-Test, one way-ANOVA and regression.Major findings are concluded as below:1. The current situations of job satisfaction and occupational stress of teachers in Northwest University.Generally speaking, the level of job satisfaction of teachers in Northwest University is below the average and the occupational stress is above the average. The table for job satisfaction shows the teachers are most satisfied with the administrative management while the working relationship is the next. The table for occupational stress shows the factors for occupational stress. The most critical factor is workload; the next one is family and life, the least critical factor is work development.2. The relationship between job satisfaction and different background of University teachers.As the teaching years increase, teacher's job satisfaction is higher. Teachers of undergraduate background have the low satisfied with treatment and welfare. Teachers of arts have the lower satisfaction than science. Different overload of period per week for teachers has the marked diversity of job satisfaction.3. The relationship between occupational stress and different background of University teachers.The workload of female teachers is heavier; teachers aged from 31—40 are feel more stress with their jobs. Teachers of lower educational background have greater occupational stress than others, especially in the teaching aspect. The overload of period per week for teachers will influence their life quality and health.4. The current conditions of occupational stress and job satisfaction mainly show the negative ways, it means as the stress grows higher the satisfaction of the job grows lower.Accordingly, this paper makes recommendations on two aspects for University and teacher. In addition, this paper also points out possible studies in future on the basis of the current findings.
