Nowadays, the significant sport event makes an important role in city's development. Based on the theory of product's qualitative attribution, this thesis considers the significant sport event as quasi-public goods with great utility and it should be supplied by the government and market together under the guide of government. The role of government in the supplying is the main supplier, the manager of resource's macro-control, the supervisor of supplying sport event and the guarantor of the event's success.Under the background of Olympic Games, this thesis studies the government's role in significant sport event practically and forecasts the after-the-race effects superficially. Furthermore this thesis tries to suggest some policies to enlarge the positive effects and to avoid the negative problems after the race, and also it summaries some strategic experience in holding spot events.It is not only the trigger mechanism for government to provide necessary policies, but also the important opportunity to improve the government's ability and the government's image in people's mind. Normalizing the government's role in significant sport event is help to convert the government's function in the market economy and to build a harmonious society.
