Educating aims at making life develop gradually. In Professor Ye Lan's opinion, educating is the kind of social activity which is of life, by life and for life. In recent years, "life education" calling for students' life development has become a trend .While the development of teachers' life has been ignored. In the teacher professional development, teachers have just been trained as the tools of teaching and educating, which causes the ignoring of teachers' life development. Immanuel Kant, the great German philosopher said: "whoever should never treat himself and others as the means or tools but as the end whenever ." according to this thought, teacher professional development should aim at the developing of a teacher's life.This paper tries to find out the disadvantages of the teacher professional development in the practical field and then construct the life-orientated teacher professional development. The life-orientated professional development aims at the developing of teachers' life which means achieving the significance and value of teacher's life and making teacher's life free,creative and special.This paper consists of four parts:The first part introduces the background, significance and theories of this study, and defines several words such as "life", "teachers' life" and "life—orientated teacher professional development, and summarizes studies about teacher professional development and life development of teachers.The second part firstly analyzes the natures and features of life and teacher's life ; secondly discusses why the teacher professional development should aim at the developing of teachers' life; and thirdly analyzes the possibility of achieving teachers' life development by professional development.The third part reflects on the teacher professional development in the practical field and analyzes the reasons that causes the lack of teachers' life development in teacher professional development.The fourth part discusses the life-orientated teacher professional development on the basis of the analysis of life and the reasons that cause the lack of teachers' life development, and suggests the measures that the life-orientated teacher professional development can take to develop teachers' life.
