The thesis is comprised of four chapters altogether,and the main contents are as follows:The first chapter mainly introduces the cause and significance of selecting such a topic,the relevant literature review,the research issues of the thesis and the methodology it employs.The second chapter defines three core concepts respectively,"technology","technology education"and"technological literacy".For"technology",this thesis first elaborates on the evolution of its connotation,and then,on the basis of critically analyzing the definitions of technology available currently,it puts forward a new definition,and last it enters into a thorough analysis of the relationship between two concepts,technology and science.As for"technology education",it can be defined either in a broad or a narrow sense, and what this thesis mainly relates to is the technology education in the stage of elementary education with the purpose of enhancing students' technological literacy;this part first deals with the differences between three patterns of technology education and then moves to the analysis of the evolutionary connotation of technology education.For"technological literacy",based on the literature on hand,a brand-new definition by the thesis is given,followed by an analysis of the characteristics of a technologically literate person and a demonstration of the importance of technological literacy.The third chapter is made up of four parts.The first part is mainly about the discussion about the reform background of American technology education and the birth process of the Standards for Technological Literacy:Content for the Study of Technology(STL),the analysis of reasons for issuing it and the situation of its implementation as well as that of the formulation of technology education standards at states' level accordingly with Arizona Technology Education Standards as an example;the second part makes a brief introduction of the text of STL through its core elements and framework;the third part enters into a deep-going analysis of the features of STL from three aspects,the content selection,organization and presentation;the fourth part elaborates on how the core notion of STL is conveyed.In the last chapter,several inspirational conclusions from STL that are worthy of our reference in our reform of the technology education are drawn.
