A high-level basketball team is a very important component of a high-level sport team in a university. In fact, the rise of college competitive basketball teams has greatly promote competitive sports in Hunan. Where there is development, there is a problem, actually more than one that are in critical need to be solved. The perfection of management of a high-level basketball team, cultivation of coaches and athletes and the sustainable development of basketball sport are on the top.The paper investigates the status quo and the development of the high-level basketball team of 15 colleges in Hunan, by means of reference on related literatures, questionnaires, interviews and statistics and so on. It has analyzed some existing problems and discovered several influential factors in the high-level basketball teams in Hunan. Based on the said analysis and discovery the paper also bring in some constructive proposals on the management of the college basketball teams in Hunan and ways of cultivation of athletes. These proposals have practically promoted the development of basketball teams in universities and colleges of Hunan. Conclusions are as follow:1.The indication of the study is that the development of high-level sport teams is consistent with the need of the education and sports in Hunan , even in our country. Since we have reached many achievements in the last more-than-20 years, there still are many problems during this period. One of them is that the overall competitive status of the basketball teams in Hunan universities and colleges is not in a real high level.2. Factors that influence high-level basketball teams: concept on basketball teams, competitive systems, scientific training approaches and apparatus, financial investment to training, coaches and their experiences, ways of cultivation of athletes and management skills.3. According to the analysis on the history and present status of the development of the high-level basketball teams in Hunan, a conclusion has been drawn as the development of high-level basketball teams in universities and colleges need innovation.
