Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been widely used in many areas in our daily lives. Although RFID brings a lot of convenience for us, the security and privacy issues are drawing more and more concerns and those issues are considered to be the main bottleneck for RFID application. The elliptic curve encryption algorithm used in RFID systems are analyzed in this paper. A Elliptic Curve Cryptography coprocessor is designed, a ECC coprocessor security enhanced tag chip has been designed、implemented. In the algorithm layer, this paper analyzes the impact of the ECC system parameters on the security level and cost, determine using elliptic curve of binary extension field length of163in the projected coordinate system. ECC point multiplication algorithms are analyzed and studied, and select the Lopez-Dahab algorithm which is most suitable for the area and power consumption requirements of RFID tags, then we study and solve the various problems of implementing the algorithm. In the circuit design level, this paper designs and optimizes dedicated arithmetic logic unit for addition, the square and the multiplication in finite field. In order to verify the accuracy and performance of the ECC processor designed in this paper, we verifying the function of the arithmetic unit in Modelsim and using FPGA for functional verification. The whole tag chip has been implemented on SMIC0.13process. The area of the baseband with ECC pocessor is0.4X0.4mm2. The verification results show that the ECC processor is fully compliant with the RFID tag power, area and timing requirements, and achieve the desired objectives.
