Digital technology now has been the most important and marked character in the information society and digital video technology has been the focus of the process of communication,multimedia,broadcasting and computer industry.Digital TV based on MPEG-2 not only concentrates most of the new technology of its field,but also promotes many new technologies in related domains.It accelerates the integration of broadcasting,computer networks and communication. MPEG-2 brings forward the concept of system layer transport stream compared to MPEG-1.Now in fact,MPEG-2 transport stream has been the commom standard in digital TV field.How to rationally distribute digital TV programs in channel,how to synchronize video and audio in the one program,all these need research in MPEG-2 system layer. DVB/MPEG-2 transport stream multiplexer plays an important role in digital video broadcasting system.It can combine several transport streams from source encoder into a single transport stream to transport channel.Its performance has a great influence on the program transmission ability of HDTV system.MPEG-2 system multiplexer signalized video,audio,host data and so on to fixed length packet type making transport stream. This thesis introduce the pricipal of transport stream multiplexing which is based on MPEG-2/DVB system specifications for broadcasting,and discuss the implementation algorithms of transport stream multiplexer,and describe design and implementation.The main contents of thesis are at a glance: Chapter 1 gives a brief survey on principle and development of digital TV system and HDTV respectively.And introduce the state of development of digital TV of our country. Chapter 2 gives an overview of FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) and designing methods of FPGA. Chapter 3 gives an overview of DVB and MPEG-2 transmission standards in digital video system. Chapter 4 desribes PSI(Program Specific Information) in the MPEG-2 standard and SI(Service Information) in the DVBstandard.
