The feature modeling technology is the key technology in CAD/CAPP system. Feature extraction and recognition for part model, is the base of connection CAD to CAPP. This paper studied and developed a Computer Aided Process Planning program (UG-CAPP) embedded in UGII , and realized the CAD/CAPP integration with the system.Firstly, this paper analyzed the features types which the UG feature modeling technology provided, and elaborated the feature recognition's correlation studies. And then the paper used the UG/OPEN, developed a feature recognition program embedded in UGII platform, used the feature recognition program recognized and extracted the feature information. The information of parts' features is transferred to backstage relations database Access. The database of parts' features information is established.Process data and knowledge base is an important support system of CAPP system. The paper used VC++ based on the ODBC technology to design and establish the process data and knowledge base.Secondly, this paper studied and compared with some correlation theories of process decision-making .The coding technic of group technology and machining element theory are applied. And then the processing chain based on the feature is compiled. The UG-CAPP program process decision-making technology is: choose the processing chain of feature by the constraint of process decision-making rule and process requirement of part, and then carry on the part process decision-making by actuated knowledge base through the process chain based on the feature. Finally, the development and use of the process decision-making program UG-CAPP are introduced, and the insufficiencies as well as the improvement of the program are discussed.
