The EBG(Electromagnetic Bandgap) structure is a kind of structures, which has some special characteristics, such as periodic bandstop, slow wave and high effective characteristic impedance. It can suppress the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a specified frequency band and in some directions, which has been widely used in the design of microwave circuits.EBG structures are deeply analyzed in this thesis, and a novel EBG structure is introduced. A low-pass filter having a cut-off frequency of 2.4GHz in the pass-band and two Wilkinson power dividers working at the center frequencies of 2.4GHz and 5.8 GHz are designed using the novel EBG structure and ordinary microstrip lines separately, and the comparing results verifying many advantages that the EBG structure has, such as simplicity in design, occupying a smaller estate area to meet circuit miniaturization and cost reduction. In the end, the filter and power dividers designed using the novel EBG structure are all fabricated, and the test results are in agreement with the simulating results.
