Mobile Ad hoc networks composed of mobile nodes with wireless communication devices are typically characterized by their multi-hop, temporary and un-center. Each node in the network also acts as a router, forwarding data packets for other nodes. How to communicate with each other is one of the key problems in Ad hoc networks. And scholars at home and abroad has been targeted at mobile Ad hoc network routing protocols to carry out a great deal of research, At present, scholars have carried out a great deal of research for Ad hoc network, but there are still many unresolved issues. Due to the constantly changing topology, the traditional routing protocols are no longer applicable in Ad hoc networks. In this thesis, two types of routing protocols were introduced, table-driven routing protocols and routing protocols on-demand-driven. Then, two typical on-demand driven routing protocol, AODV and DSR, is analyzed and simulated by NS2. The simulation is setup in five scenarios, which is residence time, max moving speed, mobile node number, connection of traffic source, and scale of topology. The results show that, AODV has a better performance with respect to packet delivery fraction, end to end delay and normalized routing load.At present, the research about Ad hoc network routing protocols has just began, and the routing protocols is the key factor of Ad hoc network. This thesis provides scientific basis for its application and contribute to the theoretical research of Ad hoc network.
