With the rapid development of wireless technology, Internet technology and mobile communications technology as two key technologies has become the fastest growing field of information. Mobile communications and IP technology are combined, and the network of Mobile IPv6 has become the direction of future development of the Internet. The traditional fixed access ways are no longer satisfy the needs of people. It is hoped that the move can still maintain a continuous Internet access. Therefore, Mobile IPv6 becomes the core of the next generation Internet protocol. While the Mobile IPv6 has proposed, its handover optimization problem has been the focus of attention in the industry.Mobile IPv6 protocol is the mobile node moving from the current link to the foreign link, which still able to maintain continuity of communication in the moving process. Resulting in disruption of communication during the process of handover and packet loss, it can not satisfy the requirements of the real-time applications and data loss sensitive applications. So IETF founded a workgroup to research on optimizing the handover process, and the goals are to reduce handover latency and packet loss. In the field of research Mobile IPv6, the handover technology for Mobile IPv6 improvement is a hot topic.This paper describes the basic Mobile IPv6 protocol and the handover process of Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 in detail. The handover mechanism of Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 and its link layer handover, motion detection process, address configuration and duplicate address detection process and the process of binding updating are analyzed systematically. View of the current Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 protocol still has larger handover latency, there is a big issue of packet loss rate during the handover process. This paper proposes a method about pre-type Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 which based on link layer trigger. The method is to obtain the IP address information from the router and to generate a new care-of address at the earliest time. It also advances the establishment of bi-directional tunnel between two routers for data packet transmission. So the new access router with packet caching reduces the packet losing and the handover latency of the process.Based on the experimental platform of NS2, wireless extension NOAH modules and the improved handover protocol for Mobile IPv6 FHMIP modules are added. By using the NS2, this paper simulates the handover technology, Fast Handovers technology and pre-type Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 technology. According to the experimental data, the performance of three handover technology is to comparative and analysis. At the same time, the pre-type Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 technology to reduce the handover latency and packet loss rate which caused in handover process is proved. It keeps the continuity of the communication in the process of handover. And it improves the performance of handover and communications.
