With the increasingly wide spread of mobile devices such as laptops, PDA andmobile phones, more and more Interact service will be provided to mobile users throughwireless network. The research on how to combine Mobile Interact with IP Technologyis now a hotspot in both the Internet world and the Communication Engineering. MobileIP, based on Internet Protocol, is proposed as a solution, which supports Mobile Nodesto realize the required mobility. Mobile IP aims at achieving the handover of a mobilenode when it is calling for changing its access point by moving into a different networkand also keeps the internet connection on. Of course, this process is supposed tocontinue without changing the IP address of the mobile node. The Mobile IPv6technology has resolved such as the problems of the "Triangular Routing". However, when the mobile host switches across subnets, handover delay is introduced, and someof the data packets could be lost, which is cased by the short break off in the process ofhandoff that cannot be avoided. With the introduction of real-time applications, thisdelay is even more intolerable. Therefore, it is of much importance that how to decreasethe handover delay and the loss of data packets in the process of a mobile node’shandoff so as to reduce the negative affection it takes to the real-time application.Problems as improving the efficiency of Mobile IPv6seamless handover and enhancingthe QoS (Quality of Service) are the main tasks in the field of mobile IPv6. So are theythe primary issues demanded to be figured out.In this article, we state the basic technique principle of Mobile IPv4and MobileIPv6respectively. Then four advanced schemes of Mobile IPv6handover, sayingStandard Handover, Fast Handover, Hierarchical Handover and Fast-HierarchicalHandover, are introduced. Fast Handover Scheme is stated in details, including itsresearch backgrounds, current studying situation, basic data flow and analysis of itsperformance. It is known that the Fast Handover is evolved from Mobile IPv6with themodification of data sequence, which then reduces the handover delay obviously. In thefifth part of this article, an advanced scheme evolved from FMIPv6explained in RFC5568is proposed. This scheme mainly poses the flowing two drawbacks that FMIPv6 has: one is the long lapse time in handover; the other is the packet loss before theestablishment of the bi-directional tunnel. As to improve the first drawback, the parallelidea is applied in the registration phrase of a mobile node. Then in order to minimize thepacket loss in handover, the function of combing buffering and forwarding is added toold Access Router to keep all packets which are headed to the mobile node. In the endof this article, the simulation work is completed with the Network Simulator version2(NS-2). MIPv6, FMIPv6and E-FMIPv6are simulated respectively to compare theirperformance. The result shows that the proposed scheme performs the best in the formsof latency time and packet loss.
