It's the technology which superimposes virtual model such as computer-generated graphics and images on the real scene in order to achieve the combination of the real scene and the virtual model. The AR systems based on marker are the most popular AR systems and are widely applied in education, entertainment, business and other fields.The AR systems based on marker need to track the marker in order to realize the combination of the real scenes and the virtual models. When the AR marker and the camera move relatively quickly and achieve the speed threshold, the "drift" phenomenon (in the video frame, the tracking of marker is later than the moving of marker) would happen, which makes the virtual model couldn't be superimposed on the real scenes in time and destroies the combination of the real scenes and the virtual models. If a new kind of marker which could be recognized much more rapidly can be designed, the delay time of the tracking of marker can be shortened and the speed threshold of "drift" phenomenon can be raised. Therefore, a new marker which is called "diagonal connected components marker" is designed and implemented in this paper. This marker doesn't need to be unwrapped and it can be identified according to the number of white components in the two diagonals of the new marker. The diagonal connected components marker greatly improved the speed of identifying marker in augmented reality and the speed threshold of "drift" phenomenon was raised effectively. The main work in this paper is as followed:1. Researching the design and identification of popular AR markers:currently, the popular markers of AR are mostly planar and have the following characteristics:â‘ the shapes of markers are mostly square.â‘¡The markers are mostly white and black, and few colorized.â‘¢The identifications of markers need the process of unwrapping.2. The diagonal connected components marker and its recognition algorithm are designed and implemented:the diagonal connected components marker can be recognized without unwrapping and the ID of the marker can be got immediately. Meanwhile, the ID of the diagonal connected components marker can be got without matching many times with the standard template and without decode matching many times. So the identifying speed of the diagonal connected components marker is much higher than current AR markers.3.
