In understanding the relation between market and planning, Bukharin’s opinion occupies an important position in the history of Marxism. After researching Marx and Engels’s economic thought and discussing Lenin’s analysis of the role of the market under the economic development status of the Soviet Union, he creatively put forward the idea of the relation between planning and market. In the perspective of this dynamic relation, this thesis is based on the balance between the national economy and Bukharin through market relations to socialist ideas. A more in-depth analysis of Bukharin’s theory of the market and plan helps readers understand and handle the relation between planning and the market. Four chapters will be discussed in the thesis:The first chapter is to analyze the ideological resources that are developed by Bukharin’s thoughts on planning and market. In one aspect, it can be inferred that Marx and Engels may have reservation about the market from their related economic theories. In another aspect, Bukharin inspired from Lenin’s "New Economic Policy". He inherited Marx and Engel’s economic thought, absorbing the essence of the "New Economic Policy", analyzing the Soviet Union - the actual situation in the Russian social practice, and gradually began to explore the relation between the planning and the market. The second chapter describes the historical context of Bukharin’s thought. His attitude to the market changed from rejection to half-rejection, which is affected by the economic development and political structure of Russian. It can be seen Bukharin’s attitude to learning, self-criticism and self-improvement.The third chapter explains the main content of Bukharin’s thoughts in four aspects. Bukharin’s theory about the relation between planning and the market is not complete; the main idea can only be speculated and summarized. The fourth chapter concludes limitations and enlightenment. Though Bukharin’s thought of the planning and market was advanced at that time, the limitation cannot be ignored. An objective evaluation can facilitate us to better understand the value of his thoughts.
