In the view of tourism image perception, the paper is based on the theories of tourism gaze, tourism symbol and Hofslede’s four-dimension paradigm. Apart from that, according to the photos uploaded on the websites, the paper analyses the content of photo, shooting skill, and tourists’ psychology, using content analysis, co-occurrence clustering analysis and the social network methods, reaching the comparative conclusion of shanghai tourism image perception during Chinese tourists and western tourists. On the one hand, the paper enriches the theory of tourism perception, based on the photograph and tourists’ psychology angles, on the other hand, the paper compares the different shanghai tourism image perception between chinese tourists and western tourists, in order to promote the shanghai tourism image.Shanghai is a world famous metropolis, in the favor of constructing world famous international tourism city, and tourism image is important for attracting tourists around the world. Based on the review of tourism image perception and tourism photos, the title of the paper is final confirmed as “comparative studyof shanghai tourim image perception—a case study of tourism photos between chinese tourists and western tourists.” The online tourism photos were collected as the main study material. A tourism image structure was constructed,. The photos were classified by their category, and the tourism perception was analyzed by the frequency. Apart from that, tourists’ emotions were analyzed according to the shooting skills. Finally, different tourism image was perceived. The conclusions are as follows:(1)western tourists perceive more scene than chinese tourists. During their trip, western tourists pay attention to more things, they have wide vision, while chinese tourists focus on less attractions.(2)As to tourism image factors, the two groups have different preference. Western group perceive stronger on leisure and entertainment attractions and scenes, while Chinese group prefer culture art and historic attractions. Western group take more photos of water landscape and the crowds, which shows their favor for the city leisure activities. Chinese group take more photos of nature scenery such as animals and plants, some Landscape Architecture Articles, and urban landscape.(3)The two groups have different tourism image factor combination characteristic. The photos of the two groups can classify into 6 categories, two typesof landscape are presented in the picture. However, the western tourists usually combine water with comprehensive scene in one picture, while Chinese tourists always adopt streets, station, bridge, boats and so on in their pictures. Western group shows more interest in traditional Chinese culture, so is Chinese group. But Chinese group don’t deeply appreciate the culture or arts. When they take pictures of people, western group shoot more photos of local people, while Chinese group take more photos of themselves or the crowds.(4)The different shooting skills present different emotions behind the photos. The two group usually choose bright color while taking pictures, which indicate the pleasant, relax, and happy mood. However, western tourists have much more passion for the trip, they could be much more pleased for the attractions or experience in shanghai. Both of the groups usually choose eye-level shot, indicating the tourists’ feeling is friendly and peaceful, but Chinese group shows their admire for the shanghai attractions. What’s more, Chinese tourists prefer to watch attractions with short distance, which can be assumed that they are very curious and have Peep psychological.
