The business of the insurance company includes debt business and capital business, with the former focusing on underwriting business and the latter focusing on investment business. With the development of financial market, the capital business has become more and more critical to an insurer. Capital business will have great influences to an insurer in terms of solvency and continuance.Firstly, by analyzing the status of insurance investment in China, the paper points out the main problems in China insurance investment.Secondly, the paper goes through the theories of insurance investment, including: 1. the principle of insurance investment; 2. Asset-Liability Management Theory; 3. Portfolio Management Theory. Asset-Liability Management Theory is the core theory above all and Portfolio Management Theory is matched with Asset-Liability Management Theory and serves as tools.Thirdly, by analyzing foreign insurance investment, the paper summarizes four features in terms of investment structure, asset management mode, investment profit and supervising system. 1. Multiple investment structure has been set up; 2. The mode of setting up asset management company is adopted by most insurers; 3. Investment profit has become the major income instead of underwriting profit; 4. Based on broad investment channels, certain restricts have been set in terms of investment proportions.At last, the paper comes to the conclusion and suggestion part. Based on the theory and demonstration analysis, combining with the situation of China, the author brings forward three strategic proposals for the insurance investment of China: 1. Promoting the mutual development of the insurance market and the capital market to improve the investment structure; 2. Emphasizing asset-liability matching management; 3. Improving the business process of asset management companies so as to enhance their investment level and efficiency.
